question on project again

Nick and I have been working on the project again. We have got the dropdown to work, so now the forms look fabulous. However, we are not able to input the data correctly into our database by using our online forms. This is the error msg we receive:

<xsql-error code="1400" action="xsql:dml">

<statement>BEGIN INSERT INTO Contact VALUES(?,?,?,?,?); COMMIT; END;</statement>
<message>ORA-01400: cannot insert NULL into ("NLAPOULA"."CONTACT"."CONTACT_ID") ORA-06512: at line 2</message>
</xsql-error>
Does anyone have the same problem? and able to solve it?

dropdown

We have successfully created the drop down and linked it to the rowset-element. However, on the web, the donor id is not showing up as we expected it to. The select statement is as follows:   select donor_id from grant_program.

You can view the form at http://elab-linux4.bus.umich.edu:8080/%7Enlapoula/project2/createContactInsertForm.xsql

does anyone know the problem associated with this?

another blog

this blog has nothing to do with the technical aspect of the project. I am just excited to find out that this project would actually help out the women's center. I have to admit my stupidity of not recognizing about this before. I think the forms online would simply their work a ton. I previously thought they had to use SQL to input all data...

There are still many technical stuff we have to solve in order for this to work. But at least i know that i am doing something that will be useful.

project question

We were trying to workon the forms that will allow us to input data online. However, we constantly run into this error message that reads "cannot insert NULL into ("NLAPOULA"."CONTACT"."CONTACT_ID") ORA-06512: at line 2" Contact_id and donor_id are supposed to be automatically generated. Contact_id is the primary key where the donor_id is the foreign key. I feel like the problem resides in the donor_id. What do we need to do to avoid this error and at the same time allow donor_id to be automated? We are currently using <td><xsl:value-of select="donor_id"/></td to automate this.

the views

a quick question: I know the first step we did for the 2nd project is to convert our 5 views from the previous assignment into xsql. However, my concern is that my group only received partial credits on the five views for project 1. So I am not sure by implementing these five not so perfect views will have an adverse impact on project 2. If it does, please let us know what we did wrong so we can correct them before working on project 2.

Thank you for your response to my question. I guess we won't touch on anything that technical in this class, but at least i have a basic understanding of the procedure now. And after reading the article about using XML on the web with XSLT, i am guessing that JavaScript/ECMA is what you would use to implement these functions. It also seems like we are on the very front of technical advancement. In the article, it described our strategy of using both XML and XSLT are "the next generation," where the current standard is "HTML/XHTML."

more questions for project 2

ok, another question for the project. We have successfully converted all five views into xsql. I assume the next step is to convert these xsql to html through xslt. So in order to view these results, we have to first come up with sql. These steps seem to be really long and hard for the organization to use in the future. Is there a simpler way of creating sql and displaying it on the web? Like some sort of command that would automatically place sql script into the right xsql file and the corresponding xslt file.

project 2

I have a few questions regarding project 2. Are we only allowed to use the material from the last project? Or can we use something brand new? I am not sure if the intent of this project is simply to learn the usage of xslt and xsql, or is it actually to create something useful for whatever organization we worked on during the first project. In our case, it probably won't be useful fot he women's center of america very much with this XML stuff, but it will nonetheless be a good learning experience for us.
